We did it! We walked 50 miles, across 4 counties in 48 hours!
All donations from our sponsored walk will go to University Hospitals of North Midlands Charity (UHNM Charity).

Leek United Building Society staff completed a sponsored walk, taking them on a journey around the counties of Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and Derbyshire, the heartland of where the Society and its twelve branches are based. The walk, which took place on 17 and 18 July, will include visits to Market Drayton, Congleton, Leek and Ashbourne branches along the 50-mile route.

Day 1: Market Drayton to Congleton (25 miles)
Day 2: Congleton to Ashbourne via Leek (25 miles)

Every member of the team at Leek United was invited to pledge their contribution to the journey around the four counties, some doing complete legs between branches, a couple of miles or joining our main organiser of the event, Dan Nutt Branch Manager, on the entire route. Over 70 staff, family and friends took part and here are some of their highlights on the journey!

Section 1 9am - Market Drayton to The White Lion

Out of Market Drayton on A53
B5415/B5026 to Knighton

Section 2 11am - The White Lion - The Offley Arms

Right onto A525 past Onneley Golf Club into Madeley

Section 3 1pm - The Offley Arms - The Railway

Past the pool onto new road
Right onto Heighley Castle Way
A531 – straight across to Heighley Lane (keep right) over the M6 – Red Hall Farm on Red Hall Lane
Right onto the B5367

Section 4 3pm - The Railway - The Bleeding Wolf

Left onto Station Road
Left on Heathcote Road
Right onto Miles Green Road
Left onto Boom Hills Road to the round about (Bignall end)
Straight over (The Plough) Bignall End Road (keep Right) over A500
Right onto Audley Road to the end left past Swan
Right onto Coalpit Hill to A34, across cross roads past Toby Carvery

Section 5 5pm - The Bleeding Wolf - Congleton

Carry on past Wharf Plumbing and turn right onto Portland Road and join the canal
Stay on the canal for a long time, under Peel Lane, Astbury Golf Club
Left Public footpath keep right the left onto Priesty Fields
Left onto Moody Street past Natwest and left to LUBS

Day 2

Section 1 9am - Congleton - Chapel Croft B&B

With Natwest on the right head down the high street
Take a right onto Park Lane A527 to the station and continue on Biddulph Road
Tale a left onto Reades Lane at Holy Trinity Church
Right on to Cherry Lane straight onto Overton Road
Straight over onto Biddulph Common Road
Straight onto Newtown road

Section 2 11am - Chapel Croft B&B - Hotel Rudyard

Straight down Newtown Road
Straight over at the cross roads
Right onto Camrose Hill straight into Rudyard

Section 3 12pm - Hotel Rudyard - Customer Service Centre

To the round about and head to the Steam Railway
Take the track all the way to Leek
West View Close – North Street
To the COOP and round to CSC

Section 4 1pm - CSC - Cottage Kitchen

Take A523 out of Leek

Section 5 3pm - Cottage Kitchen - The Dog & Partridge

Left onto Mayfeild Road/Church Street

We’re raising money for UHNM, enabling the trust to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment and to enhance patient experience and comfort for people who are cared for at County Hospital in Stafford and at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. The charity also funds additional training for staff and research programmes.

Steve Rushton from University Hospital of North Midlands Charity said, “We’re delighted that Leek United Building Society have chosen us. The money raised will make a huge difference to our patients and staff.”
