Our Charitable Foundation grants are making a difference

24th November 2023
Charitable foundation

To help more local charities and community groups bring their people-focused initiatives to life, our Charitable Foundation awarded more donations to see some exciting projects come to fruition.

After launching the Leek Building Society Charitable Foundation in 2022, we’ve been able to go even further in our aim to make a positive difference to the lives of local people.

The Foundation’s Board of Trustees come together every three months to consider the applications received and were pleased to have recently presented four extremely worthy causes with a donation that will positively impact local people.

  • EqualBase in Cheadle, a not-for-profit charity specialising in development programmes and activities, was granted a donation to help them add more accessibility-friendly outdoor furniture, such as high planters and wheelchair friendly benches, to their garden.
  • Leek & District Samaritans in the Staffordshire Moorlands, received a grant to help them deliver in-depth training sessions to future volunteers, so they can develop the knowledge and skills required to help and support local people in need.
  • Silklife Foodbank in Macclesfield, Cheshire, which is run and supported by Silklife Church, received funding to help provide local people with the essential food and sanitary items they need during the cost-of-living crisis.
  • Horton Lodge School in Rudyard, Staffordshire Moorlands, was awarded a grant to aid the development of a sensory garden. Once established, the garden will provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for their pupils, as well as future school children for many years to come.

Lynsey Sherratt from Horton Lodge School, shared their appreciation for the funding, saying:

Thanks to the Charitable Foundation, we’ll be able to create an accessible sensory garden with scope for inclusive activities and sensory immersion opportunities for our pupils. Having an accessible sensory garden is a fantastic way to improve our pupil’s development and educational experience, experiences that they may not have access to anywhere else.

The Foundation has now awarded over £34,000 to local charities and community groups and both the Trustees and our staff members have been delighted to see the positive difference that’s been made.

Chair of the Charitable Foundation, Tim Edwards, added:

“Since the Foundation launched in April 2022, over £34,000 has been granted to support a broad range of worthy causes across Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and Derbyshire. There’s so much more we can do to support local charities and community groups, and I encourage anyone looking for funding to support the development of their people-focused initiatives to apply. It’s a pleasure to be a part of a Charitable Foundation that truly cares about.

Any local charities or community groups in need of financial support are encouraged to apply for a grant before the submission window closes on Sunday 31 December. The Foundation are particularly encouraging applications for causes that help to combat social exclusion and improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable people.
