STAFF at one of Leek United's branch offices actively took steps – 41,370 of them, to be precise! – to raise funds for the national Sport Relief campaign.
Colleagues clocked up as many footsteps as they could during the course of serving customers at the Society’s Derby Street branch in Leek on Friday, 18th March.
Dressed in sports gear, the team used a pedometer to give them a grand total of steps taken at the close of business, following a seven-and-a-half-hour shift.
Gary Egan, Senior Customer Advisor at Derby Street, said: “The event went really well, and staff even came in on their day off to take part.
“We took it in turns with the pedometer in half-hour relays, like a tag team, and recorded a final total of 41,370 steps – which we calculated to be the equivalent of almost 20 miles!”
Customers were also invited to join in the fundraising fun, by paying £1 a time to guess the final total – with a luxury hamper of goodies up for grabs for the nearest estimate.
Added Gary: “We always pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service throughout the year, but this time we were all running around even more than usual!”
All proceeds raised will be donated to Sport Relief’s 2016 nationwide campaign. Since 2002, Sport Relief has raised more than £262m to help disadvantaged people in the UK and overseas.Back to news
