YOUNG cricketers are enjoying the benefits of another good innings this winter – thanks to ‘follow-on’ sponsorship from Leek United…
The Society’s ongoing support for Leek Cricket Club has already helped to provide weeks of special indoor training for its junior players throughout the close season.
And LCC officials were bowled over this week to receive a cheque for £2,000 from Leek United, which will further ensure their youngsters won’t be going into the 2018 season cold.
It was presented to the club by Sheila Kirk – Manager of the Society’s Leek Derby Street Branch – at Leek High School, where coaching and pre-season training for young players is held during the winter months.
The weekly indoor sessions take place on Saturday mornings for five to 14-year-olds, with additional development training for 15-year-old players on Sundays, all run by club coach Denise Shirley and the club’s qualified coaches.
Leek Cricket Club chairman Brian Mellor said: “We are deeply indebted to Leek United for its continuing and long-running support of the club.
“Like the Society, we are an organisation that places great importance on putting something back into the community we serve, and Leek United’s generous sponsorship means that we can continue to encourage and develop the talents of local youngsters.”
Leek United’s Head of Marketing, Lisa Buckley, added: “Leek Cricket Club makes an outstanding contribution to the local community, and we are delighted to continue our support in this way.”
