Society appoints new Head of Risk

17th January 2018

LEEK United Building Society has appointed a new Head of Risk and Compliance.

Andrew Davies joined the Society from the Co-operative Bank, where he was Lead Treasury Risk Manager.

He brings to his new role at Leek United more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry, which began in retail banking with Barclays.

Moving to Britannia Building Society in 1987, Andrew held a number of positions, culminating in that of Assistant Treasurer, with responsibility for management of assets and liabilities.

Following Britannia’s merger with the Co-op in 2009, Andrew played a key role in setting up a risk oversight team to monitor treasury activity.

“Joining Leek United has given me the opportunity to further broaden my risk management experience, as well as having greater input into the business,” said Andrew.

“It’s important for me, too, that the Society’s values are closely aligned to my own, in terms of doing the right thing for customers and treating staff fairly.

“We’re at a time when the financial services industry faces greater scrutiny and more regulatory requirements than ever before; our challenge is to maintain the high standards we’ve set for ourselves and continue to achieve the levels of customer service for which the Society is renowned.”

Andrew, aged 50, was born and raised in Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent, and lives in Endon – in Leek United’s Staffordshire Moorlands ‘heartland’ – with his partner Lesley; they each have two grown-up children.

In his spare time, he enjoys walking in the Lake District/Peak District, and is a season ticket holder at Port Vale Football Club.
