LEEK United Building Society teamed up with Stoke City Football Club goalkeeper Shay Given to encourage youngsters at a North Staffordshire school to make a great save.
The Society joined the Republic of Ireland international on a visit to Seabridge Primary School in Newcastle, to meet Year 2 pupils and present them with gym bags, Stoke City Football Club T-shirts and City 7s* membership packs.
Around 60 children at the Roe Lane school met Shay, who attended the school along with Clare Beardmore, Leek United’s Head of Marketing & Products, Rob Shropshire, Manager of the Society’s Hanley and Newcastle branches, and Steve Hunt of the Stoke City Community Trust.
Rob said: “The children were really excited to meet Shay, who took the time to join in with a ‘question and answer’ session with them.
“For our part, we want to teach youngsters the importance of saving from a young age – so having Stoke City’s goalkeeper there with us on the day was entirely appropriate!”
