Leek United offers a week to plan a life ahead

30th May 2019

Leek United is launching a special campaign to help people put their pension plans under the spotlight – and prepare for the retirement lifestyle they’re hoping for…

For two weeks – from 28 May to 7 June – the Society aims to raise awareness of the importance of proper retirement planning.

It’s offering no obligation pension ‘health check’ drop-in sessions with a qualified Independent Financial Adviser from Wren Sterling* on selected dates during May/June at all Leek United branches in Cheshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.

And the Society hopes the sessions will steer people of all ages on the road to a comfortable, worry-free lifestyle once they’ve left the routine of ‘9-to-5’ behind them.

“For many approaching retirement, the state pension will simply not be enough to maintain the lifestyle they’ve been used to while they’ve been employed,” said John Kelly, Leek United’s Operations Director.

“That means they’ll need their own pension to provide additional income when they stop working.

“At the other end of the scale are younger people for whom retirement seems a long way off, who may not yet have made any provision towards a pension of their own.

“We want to get the message over to everyone that it’s never too late – or too early – to improve or start your pension planning…and factoring in longer life expectancy, too, it’s never been more important!”

The general rule of thumb is that you will need between half and two-thirds of the income you had when you were working to be able to live comfortably in retirement.

Some regular costs will go down when you retire – for example, if you’ve paid off your mortgage or other debts – but others may go up, particularly if you plan to travel or enjoy your new-found leisure time to the full.

“These are all the sorts of things that need to be taken into consideration, with the help of a qualified Independent Financial Adviser,” continued John.

“Initial advice and a pension review with a Wren Sterling adviser is open to all existing Leek United customers and non-customers alike – and taking this step could be one of the best day’s work anyone could do..!”

For details of the no-obligation pension health check sessions you can book an appointment at any one of Leek United’s 12 branches.

*Leek United has a partnership agreement with nationwide financial advice provider Wren Sterling to offer independent advice to members on all aspects of financial planning – including: savings, protection, investments, retirement and inheritance tax planning.
