‘SILKMEN’ fan Sam Tucker was on the winning side in more ways than one when he opened a savings account with Leek United…
The soccer-mad 10-year-old was picked out as the winner of a special prize draw to be a matchday mascot for his Macclesfield Town Football Club heroes.
And after walking proudly onto the pitch with the first team at their Moss Rose ground, Sam – of Holmes Chapel – was able to watch from the stand as they beat FC Halifax 2-1 in their Boxing Day Vanarama National League fixture.
Sam – whose prize also included a full Macclesfield Town FC club kit – was one of scores of young savers automatically entered into the prize draw after opening accounts at Leek United’s Macclesfield Branch, promoted by Silkmen mascot Roary and the Society’s own Humphrey the Camel.
His mum Jane said: “The whole day was absolutely wonderful, not just for Sam but all the family, too, who were also included.
“From the moment he won the competition, Sam was really excited; his highlight was walking out onto the pitch with the players – and it was made even better when Macc Town won!”
Macclesfield Town General Manager Rob Heys added: "This was a fantastic prize for a young football fan and we're really glad Sam enjoyed his day.
"Our Boxing Day game is always a special one and we are delighted that it was even more special for Sam!
"We're also delighted to share the experience of watching the table-topping Silkmen with some Leek United savers."Back to news
