LEEK United Customer Adviser Joanne Finnegan is set to face her worst fear on a wing and a prayer – in aid of charity.
She’s taking to the skies above Yorkshire for a 130mph ride…standing up on the wing of a bi-plane!
The daredevil stunt – at Leeds East Airport, Doncaster – has been organised as a fundraising challenge by the Midlands-based Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children.
Joanne and her colleagues at Leek United’s Derby Branch have chosen Newlife as one of four charities to be the focus of their fundraising activities during 2016.
And for Joanne, her ‘wing walk’ on Saturday 13th August will be a particular personal challenge…
“I’ve always been one to do daring sports, such as boxing and martial arts – but I do have a massive fear of heights,” she said.
“I’ll be strapped standing up on a bi-plane, piloted by a professional stunt pilot, and go on a five-minute flight – which will probably seem more like five hours!”
Joanne has set herself a target of raising £1,000 for Newlife with her wing walk, and has set up a ‘JustGiving’ page for anyone wishing to make a donation at: www.justgiving.com/Joanne-Finnegan/
She added: “Newlife raise money to provide disabled children with specialist equipment that they would otherwise not be able to afford. Anyone who would like to make a donation can also be sure that all the money I raise will go towards helping a local child.”Back to news
