CUSTOMERS at Leek United’s Newcastle branch are set to help staff member Jackie Jones celebrate a special long-service milestone.
For Customer Assistant Jackie has been serving many of the Society’s members for the 40 years she has worked there!
“I’ve literally grown up with a lot of the customers – I’ve seen them get married and have children, and we’ve ‘compared notes’ along the way,” said Jackie, who started at the Ironmarket Branch as a clerk/cashier at the age of 18 in 1977.
“Just like me, they’ve remained loyal to Leek United, and we still enjoy a chat when they come in to the Branch.”
Jackie’s younger daughter, Rachel, has started following in her Mum’s footsteps – although she still has a long way to go; she has worked at the Society’s Hanley Branch for the last two years.
And it has only been two periods of maternity leave that have interrupted Jackie’s 40 years’ service, which she officially reaches on Tuesday, 24th January.
Simon Round, Leek United’s Head of Branch Network, said: “The Society prides itself on being ‘the friendlier face of finance’, and Jackie has provided that for our Newcastle customers for a long time. We’re very proud of her and her long-service achievement.”
There is only one thing that Jackie regrets: “Computerisation can sometimes be the bane of my life – I really miss the old ledgers, ink pens and blotting paper we used to use!” she added.Back to news
