Staff at Leek United backed one of their favourite good causes – by organising ‘a day at the races’.
To coincide with Royal Ascot, the Society’s Finance Department laid on a fundraising race meeting of their own, Dickin’s Donkey Derby – named after Finance Clerk Simon Dickin – at their Head Office in Leek.
Pre-recorded horse races were screened on to a big TV – with colleagues betting £1 a time on the outcome, or paying £2 for their own horse for the chance of winning a bottle of wine.
And the day finished a tote-al success, with £270 being raised for The Rossendale Trust*.
To add to the occasion, the Finance Department was decorated with bunting, and summer refreshments – including cakes and strawberries and cream – which were served throughout the day.
“There wasn’t a fancy hat in sight, but we a great cross-section of staff coming in to support the event – and our thanks go to everyone who generously donated,” said Jamie Pointon, Financial Controller.
*The Rossendale Trust provides supported living for adults with a learning disability in tenanted apartments across seven sites in the Macclesfield and Buxton areas.
The Trust helps its tenants to live as independently as possible, to make their own choices and enjoy being a part of the communities around them.
It also provides for people, in some cases, with additional physical disabilities and other conditions such as Autism and Asperger's Syndrome.Back to news
