Don't make a 'gift' of your personal details

21st December 2016

SAVERS have been warned against inadvertently ‘gifting’ their account details to fraudsters in the run-up to Christmas.

The message was issued by Leek United after reports locally of bank and building society customers being contacted by people trying to obtain personal information.

“This type of fraud is, sadly, extremely common and customers need to be on their guard and aware that they, too, could be targeted,” said David Riley,  Leek United’s Savings Manager.

“Callers often come across as very plausible, and it’s easy for anyone picking up the ‘phone to them to be lulled into a false sense of security.

“If savers ever receive a call requesting account details or other such sensitive information, and they are in any doubt that it is Leek United calling, they should telephone the Society back on our main switchboard number – 01538 384151.

“We urge all our customers to ensure they keep their personal details safe and do not divulge them to third-party callers under any circumstances.”

Anyone receiving a suspicious call or any such request for their details should contact Leek United immediately on 01538 384151.
