As the Government begins to ease some of the lockdown measures we’ve all been living with, I want to assure you that Leek United Building Society remains as committed as ever to supporting you. We’re here to help in any way we can.
I would like to take this opportunity to update you on our work to assist you, our staff and the local community through these most challenging of times.
I know that many of you rely heavily on our branches to access and manage your money. I’m therefore delighted we’ve been able to keep all our branches and agencies open for essential services throughout the lockdown, with appropriate social distancing measures to keep everyone safe. I could not be more proud nor speak more highly of our front line staff and I know from your feedback that so many of you have greatly appreciated their dedication and friendly disposition in very difficult circumstances.
The health and safety of our staff and our members is our top priority. We’re constantly monitoring the latest developments in relation to Covid-19 and acting on official Government advice. In line with that advice, we would be grateful if you could help us by only visiting our branches when it is essential for you to do so. If you’re feeling unwell, please do not visit at all. You’ll find the latest opening hours for our branches here, with the first hour each day dedicated to our elderly and vulnerable customers.
TELEPHONE & ONLINE SUPPORT
We believe that in many cases, it won’t be necessary for you to visit our branches as we’ve adapted our services so we can assist you over the phone. We’ll be able to help you with your payment, mortgage or savings query – including a request for a new mortgage or savings account – over the telephone. We even have our home insurance and financial planning specialists ready to support you. Our central telephone lines continue to operate as normal from 9.00am am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and from 9.00am to 12 noon on Saturdays. MANAGING YOUR FINANCES – HELP WITH YOUR MORTGAGE
We understand the Covid-19 crisis has had a significant impact on many people’s finances and our message is that we’re here to help. If you think you’ll have difficulty paying your mortgage, we’re offering payment reductions, revised payment plans and mortgage payment holidays for up to three months. So far we’ve helped over 500 members arrange a payment holiday. If you need help, here’s a link to our dedicated mortgage support page.
LOOKING AFTER OUR STAFF
In truth, none of us could have anticipated the incredible challenges thrown up by the current crisis but it has been a great privilege to work with such wonderful, caring and committed colleagues in Leek United. Everyone has pulled together to support our members and each other and we’re all proud to do so – in a survey conducted in late May, the vast majority of our staff said they’re proud to work for us and that they believe our organisation demonstrates the highest levels of integrity in how we go about our business. Just as we treat our customers with respect, we look after our staff and there has surely never been a more important time to do so than now.
We continue to support as many of our team members as possible to work from home. For those colleagues who have to come into a branch or head office to work, we’re following the latest Government guidelines and doing all we can to make sure the environment is as safe as possible.
HELPING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
As a mutual building society, one of the things that makes us special is our focus on supporting the communities we serve and helping those who need it most. We’ve been working with local charities and community groups to help them at this challenging time when they may be struggling for funding and general support. We’ve also been proactively assisting as many of our elderly and vulnerable members as possible.
A central component of our community work has been a fundraising drive for three wonderful local charities – Home Start Staffordshire Moorlands, Treetops Hospice, Derbyshire and East Cheshire Hospice. With incredible creativity and commitment from almost every member of our staff, we’ve run, walked, cycled, quizzed, bingoed and even head-shaved to raise over £13,000. I’m delighted to advise this will now be matched by the Society to raise a brilliant £26,000 for our charities. I would of course like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved and particularly to those of you who were kind enough to donate. We’re managing to help so many people just when they need us.
