Society helps to put charities in running for boost

17th April 2019

Three Cheshire charities were in the running for a financial boost after Leek United helped to sponsor one of the county’s most challenging off-road races.

Congleton Harriers’ 32nd Cloud 9 fell race attracted almost 260 runners from over 70 running clubs, who battled a challenging but scenic course up and over the Bosley Cloud last month (March).

After the race, runners ‘re-fuelled’ with hot drinks – thanks to a new hot water boiler bought with a donation from the Society – and homemade cakes.

And the £300 raised by the event has now been donated by the Harriers to three local charities: East Cheshire Hospice, Astbury Mere Trust and Congleton Food Bank.

The Harriers presented a further £259 – representing £1 for each runner taking part in the Cloud 9 race – to the National Trust, which allows runners access to the Cloud for the race.

Race Director Nigel Poole said: “This was the second year that Leek United has supported the Cloud 9, and we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to them and all our other race sponsors who helped to make these donations possible.”
