COVERS might be on outside and the only slips on ice – but young cricketers are still managing to get a good innings this winter, thanks to Leek United.
The Society is helping to ensure that weeks of special indoor training are delivered to junior players as part of its ongoing sponsorship of Leek Cricket Club.
Club officials have a full ‘fixture list’ of coaching and pre-season training in place throughout the winter months for youngsters, to ensure they don’t go into the 2016 season cold.
The weekly sessions are being held indoors at Leek High School on Saturday mornings for five to 11-year-olds, followed by additional coaching for the 11-17-year-old players, run by the club’s coach Dave Ferris, assisted by volunteers.
Leek Cricket Club chairman Brian Mellor said: “The winter coaching helps to ensure our young players enjoy some continuity after the summer, improve their game and iron out any problems.
“We’re very grateful for Leek United’s sponsorship, which means that we can continue to develop the cricketing skills of local youngsters and provide the club with a good supply of future talent.”
Leek United’s Marketing & Products Manager, Clare Beardmore, added: “Leek Cricket Club makes a terrific contribution to the local community, and we are delighted to continue our support in this way.”Back to news
