Leek United Building Society Charitable Foundation – Chairperson and Independent Trustee Vacancies

Your opportunity to help hundreds of local charities and community causes

Leek United Building Society is a highly admired financial services provider, strong, independent and deeply committed to supporting its members and the local community in its heartland counties of Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire.

We are about to embark on one of the most important ventures in our 157-year history by establishing a new Charitable Foundation. And we’re recruiting an Independent Chairperson and three Independent Trustee members to serve on our new Board of Trustees.  To avail of this opportunity to make a real difference to our local communities, you’ll need to be hugely passionate about giving back to the community and ideally, you’ll have experience of working on the board of a foundation, charity or similar entity.

What are we looking for?

The Board of Trustees will consist of four independent trustees as well three employee trustees from Leek United Building Society. We have already made our employee appointments and we now wish to appoint the independent trustees, including the Chair.

We welcome applicants from all sectors, but as a new Charitable Foundation, we especially seek those who have:

  • previous experience in a similar role;
  • an understanding of the most pressing issues within our heartland counties;
  • experience in grant-making, monitoring, evaluation and influencing social change;
  • an ability to think creatively and work effectively as part of a team; and
  • a commitment to the ethos of the foundation.

We hope to gather these skills across all four trustee positions, so don’t worry, we’re not looking for all this experience in one person! The most important thing is a willingness to be hands on – as a new Charitable Foundation, there is lots of work to do to get up and running and raise awareness.

What’s in it for you?

A chance to:

  • Contribute to the set up and running of a new charitable foundation
  • Make a real and sustained difference to those most in need in our heartland counties
  • Work with an incredibly friendly, committed and hard-working group of local people

A few more details:

This is a voluntary, unpaid appointment, although reasonable travel expenses will be paid.

It is anticipated that the Board of Trustees will meet 4 times per year, and you will therefore need to commit 4-6 days per year to fulfil this role.

Leek United Building Society Charitable Foundation is committed to equality and diversity and aims to have a board of trustees that reflects the communities in which we operate. We particularly encourage applications from people with disabilities, from people who are Black or Asian or another minority ethnic background and from the LGBT community.

To apply for one of these roles, you should send your CV along with a covering letter detailing the position you are applying for, why the appointment is of interest and what you believe you can bring to the role. These should be sent to recruitment@leekunited.co.uk.

Closing date for applications: 7 August 2020
