Patients' rest assured, thanks to Society's gift 19 / 12 / 2011
PATIENTS at a Staffordshire hospital are assured of a restful and healthy 2012, with the help of a special festive gift from Leek United.
The Society has an established annual tradition of making charitable donations in lieu of sending out corporate greetings.
This year, £500 has been presented to Leek Moorlands Hospital, where it will be used towards the purchase of an electric ‘profiling bed'.
Profiling beds can be lowered to a height which helps to reduce the risk of patient injury through falls, and facilitate patient transfers to and from the bed.
Matron Kath Ramage explained: "These beds have been designed to be easy to clean and decontaminate, which helps to reduce infection control risks. They also make moving and handling patients easier, minimising the risk of injury to nursing staff and also helping to increase patient independence."
The Society is a regular supporter of the hospital and past donations have all been used to purchase a variety of equipment which contributes directly to patient care.
Assistant Hospital Manager Alison Bond added: "Leek Moorlands Hospital, which is part of the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust, is once again extremely grateful to Leek United for its very generous donation."
The cheque was presented to Sister Carol Page by Ben Gronneberg, Leek United's Head of Retail Sales, Insurance and Marketing, on the hospital's Saddler Ward.
Ben said: "Organisations spend a lot of money every year at Christmas sending out corporate gifts and greetings. At Leek United, we believe that this money is of far greater benefit to the community we serve and we are very happy to be able to make these festive contributions to the hospital."
