'United' with Leek Town F C to grow the game 25 / 11 / 2011
LEEK United has thrown its support behind its ‘home' football club - to ‘grow the game' at grass roots level.
The Society has given a £1,000 donation towards providing professional coaching for the junior sides that now play under Leek Town FC's banner.
Leek Town now has a total of 19 youth teams - ranging in age from under seven to under 18 - after securing a ‘Grow The Game' grant from the Football Foundation to develop its junior section and become a ‘charter standard' community club.
It is also widening the club's inclusivity with the launch of two disabled teams, for 10-16 year olds and adults.
"This sponsorship is a massive help for us, and we're very proud to have Leek United on board," said Leek Town chairman Andy Wain.
"All our junior sides are dependent on the hard work of parents, volunteers and sponsors. But they nevertheless also cost a lot to run, in terms of admin, time and the provision of qualified coaches for all age levels.
"Leek United's generous donation will go towards the coaching costs of our young teams, our disabled teams, and will help us in our ongoing commitment to meet the needs of all local children and young people who want to play football, regardless of ability."
The Society's sponsorship cheque was presented to Andy Wain and Dennis Bates, a Leek Town director and junior co-ordinator, by Sheila Kirk, Manager of Leek United's Leek Derby Street Branch, at Leek Town's Harrison Park ground.
Ben Gronneberg, Leek United's Head of Retail Sales, Insurance and Marketing, said: "We have enjoyed close links with Leek Town FC for several years now, and the club generously allows us to use its ground for our annual schools football tournament.
"We are delighted to further strengthen that relationship, and assist in the development and fitness of young players in the community we serve."
