Market Drayton

Market Drayton is a traditional market town (affectionately known as the 'home of gingerbread').  At its peak the traditional biscuity gingerbread, which contained rum, was made by four bakers in the town.

At the centre of the town lies the 'Butter Cross', a lovely stone portico that was built in 1824 to act as cover for the local market stalls. The old town bell still hangs from the 'Butter Cross' to act as a memorial to the fire that started in a bakers shop in 1651 and almost destroyed the town.

The branch was opened in 1974 and continues to provide an essential service to the town.
