Congleton
An historic town which boasts an eclectic mix of shops and eateries catering
for all tastes and ages. Situated on the banks of the river Dane, Congleton was known in the past for its bear baiting fights and hence where the local football team acquired its name ‘The Bears'. Congleton is very well known for its textile production and the economy has evolved to
include air-bags and golf balls
Other landmarks of note are ‘The Cloud' (a very tall outcrop of rock on the Cheshire Plains overlooking Congleton) and ‘Jodrell Bank' which is located just outside Congleton.
The branch was one of two opened during the Queen's Silver Jubilee year (1977), the other being our Cheadle branch.
